The Bucks County SPCA (BCSPCA) in Southeastern Pennsylvania is searching for a Director of Shelter Medicine. The BCSPCA operates two managed-intake shelters with well-equipped clinics in beautiful historic Bucks County. Our current medical team includes a full-time veterinarian, technicians, a client services coordinator and assistants.
The Director of Shelter Medicine is responsible for managing the medical department, performing surgical procedures (primarily spay/neuter of cats, dogs and rabbits) and physical examinations and diagnostic workups on healthy and sick shelter animals. They will bring their knowledge of Shelter Medicine to the team, writing and updating medical protocols and implementing changes as needed to other shelter protocols in conjunction with the Shelter Directors. This position also oversees a small public clinic that delivers low-cost spay/neuter for owned, feral (TNR) and rescue cats. Experience in Shelter Medicine and management are key components for the successful candidate in this role, though training is available for the right candidate.
The Director of Shelter Medicine position is an exempt, full-time, 40-hour per-week position, which may include 1 weekend day.

Requirements:
Valid VMD/DVM license in the State of Pennsylvania.
Must hold or be eligible to hold accreditation from the USDA.
Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
Experience and/or interest in shelter medicine preferred.
BCSPCA is a private nonprofit humane organization that has served beautiful historic Bucks County, Pennsylvania, since 1912. We operate two managed intake facilities with embedded non-public clinics and a robust foster program that collectively serve up to 3,500 animals annually (primarily cats, dogs, small animals and, from cruelty cases, farm animals). We have a “No Time Limit” policy for adoptable animals, an approximately 90% live release rate, and a solid team of 40 staff members and 250+ volunteers, including approximately 160 trained foster homes.
