The Clinical Veterinarian provides veterinary support to Division of Veterinary Resources laboratory animal programs consistent with DVR guidelines. The primary responsibility shall be the provision of veterinary medical and surgical care for non-human primates (NHP) and rodents. Participation in the veterinary medical care program for other various animal species is included as a smaller component of the duties of the position. Clinical Veterinarian responsibilities include providing daily clinical care and treatment of the laboratory animals.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent required. Must have a license to practice veterinary medicine in at least one (1) state. Minimum three (3) years’ experience required in clinical laboratory animal medicine which must include non-human primates (NHPs). Completion of a residency program in laboratory animal medicine and certification as a Diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) is preferred. Experience with IACUC activities and research protocol review/approval process, and/or consultant service to the IACUC. Must have knowledge of laboratory animal technician duties and training. Must possess excellent knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulations governing Animal Care. Must be a legal resident of the United States.
